Mission

YEP (Young Entrepreneurship Project) is a program aimed at developing entrepreneurial skills among students in developing areas. YEP was initiated in 2012 in Kenya and has since expanded to South Africa where it is now hosted by Stellenbosch University and sponsored by Backsberg Winery. YEP’s mission is to inspire young people in the field of entrepreneurship and guide them through the process of successfully starting up and implementing small businesses.

What is YEP

The YEP program includes a business plan competition in which high school learners present their business ideas. The business ideas are reviewed by a jury of professionals and experts in the field of business, and assessed accordingly based on the impact on local communities, feasibility, and sustainability.

Each of the winning business ideas is awarded with start-up capital, enabling the implementation of this business idea. This entire process is guided by student mentors from participating universities.
